Fresh Super Juices!

Kick start your day with a healthy breakfast juice from V and H Holland Road, Hove.

Here we are revealing the recipes of our three super juices!

Percy’s “Purest Green” juice.

x10 eating apples

x8 kiwi’s

x1 whole celery

100g fresh ginger

x1 lemon (including skin)

500g baby spinach OR kale

METHOD

Simply juice all ingredients into one large jug, starting with the spinach and ginger. This is to ensure all of the rich flavour and colour from the spinach and ginger are washed out of the machine and into the juice by the juicier ingredients. We leave the skin on the lemon as it provides a lovely aroma and pithiness to the juice. Give it a stir and serve generously with ice. This recipe makes a good 3 litres depending on size and quality of fruit.

BENEFITS

The health benefits of this juice are huge. Kale has fantastic cholesterol-lowering and anti-inflammatory qualities. Spinach is a rich source of iron and is also linked to anti-cancerous properties. Kiwi is a fruit not used enough these days. Its vitamin C level exceeds that of an orange twice its size, has high levels of potassium, a great source of dietary fibre reducing the risk of colonic cancer and also protects against DNA damage.

“Crazy Beat” beetroot juice.

x3 good sized raw beetroot.

x8/10 eating apples

x12 carrots

100g ginger (not essential)

x1 lemon (including skin)

METHOD

As before, juicing all ingredients together, beetroot first to wash out all of its intense colour and earthy goodness. Feel free to peel the beets if you like but so long as they’re clean there’s no harm in keeping them on. Ginger isn’t essential in this recipe or the previous however it does provide a wonderful depth of flavour with just the smallest amount. Just add half the recommended and go from there if you’re not a fan. But if you’re like me and cant get enough of the stuff, double up and feel the burn!

BENEFITS

Our theory is the wackier it looks, the better its going to be. This is very much the case with this potions-class- looking juice… Full of potassium, magnesium and iron as well as vitamins A, B6 and C, and folic acid. Beetroot is an underutilised veg, probably because most of us were brought up with it pickled, in some god-awful iceberg lettuce salad, but we love it…raw. It gives an intensely purple colour and is full of essential dietary fibres that dramatically reduce the risk of colon and stomach cancer, removing bile and acids from the digestive tracts, also decreasing cholesterol and bodily toxins. Its wealth of dietary compounds can also reduce risk of heart disease, birth defects and strokes.

The next hero of this juice is ginger. This aromatic root of awesomeness improves the absorption and assimilation of essential nutrients and minerals into the body. For centuries its been used as a remedy for sea sickness and other motion related illnesses (and still is.) More recently it has been an effective aid in preventing morning sickness in pregnant mothers, reducing symptoms of arthritis, relief of gastric upsets or flatulence (nice) and the crown jewel, contains aphrodisiac properties! What’s not to like?!

“The carrot top” carrot, orange and ginger juice.

x8 juicing oranges

x12 carrots

x1 lemon (including skin)

100g fresh ginger

METHOD

Trimming all of the skin off of the oranges and clean the outside of the carrots with a scouring sponge under running cold water. Then just juice all ingredients together and give it a good stir.

BENEFITS

We’re all familiar with many of the health benefits of oranges, mainly vitamin C, however they are also a rich source of antioxidants with anti-tumour and blood clot inhibiting properties. The same can be said of the lemon which is also a strong cholesterol fighter and improves metabolism.

As for carrots, they’re a great source of fibre and  it also has all the functions of vitamin A such as maintaining good eye health, reproduction (sperm production), maintenance of epithelial integrity, growth and development. They add a lovely sweet, nutty and wholesome flavour to this juice.

Enjoy juicing and look out for future juice recipes and updates!
